When is National STEM Day? The History of the Day:
MGA Entertainment established National STEM Day in 2015. It takes place on November 8th each year. That date was deliberately chosen because it’s a play on words: “NOV8” sounds like “Innovate” when it is pronounced. National STEM Day was designed to inspire children to pursue STEM subjects, but recently the day has expanded to include learning and networking opportunities for adults already pursuing STEM careers.
What Activities are Done to Celebrate National STEM Day?
National STEM Day is used as a chance for educators and employers to promote STEM education and spark curiosity. Activities for children in K-12 schools can range from creating towers out of straws, making paper airplanes, building a volcano, and so much more. As for National STEM Day outside of the classroom, a plethora of companies recognize the day and strive to enhance employee engagement. The companies do so by hosting presentations on STEM topics, creating STEM competitions, inviting guest speakers to share insight about STEM, or encouraging employees to volunteer at STEM events.
How can you Celebrate National STEM Day?
Now that we understand what National STEM Day is, here are some ways you can celebrate it: engage in STEM activities, explore STEM careers, go to STEM workshops, or attend STEM events online. Also, an interest in STEM isn’t limited to one day. Some long-term activities that you can do to promote a strong, consistent interest in STEM are connecting with mentors, taking STEM courses at school or online, joining STEM-related clubs, such as robotics, coding, or research clubs, and trying to learn something new every day.
