The team at National STEM Honor Society™ embraces a Commitment to Sustainability as a cornerstone of the organization. We view environmental responsibility as a vital part of both operational excellence and educational principle. Pursuing the Commitment to Sustainability aligns our work and employees with environmental stewardship, which is realized as follows:
Resource Library– NSTEM™ is committed to continually updating and adding exclusive resources for Chapter members found in the Resource Library.
Projects – Chapter advisors are encouraged to promote student projects related to environmental issues and sustainability, as well as to use recycled materials in their projects whenever possible. As a part of the vast Resource Library, NSTEM continuously updates the library of curated engaging projects with an increasing ratio related to sustainability.
Structure – National STEM Honor Society has a quantifiable positive impact on society, workers, the community, and the environment. One percent of membership fees are donated to international organizations that support our three commitments.
Store – Our Store inventory is purposely limited and focused on sustainable products for sale to members and Chapters.
Web Development and Design – NSTEM’s designer Karen Shea Design and web developer smallfish design are both local and embrace sustainability in their practices and operations.
Green Website Hosting– NSTEM’s website hosting company GreenGeeks is the industry’s leading eco-friendly web hosting provider.
Green Cleaning– The NSTEM office uses 100% green cleaning products.
Sustainable Purchasing– NSTEM purchases gently used electronic and office equipment, whenever feasible. For events and the office, we source healthy and sustainable nutrition options.
Minimal Waste Strategies– NSTEM engages waste strategies to minimize waste and cross contamination through composting, reuse, and recycling.
Renewable Energy Office– NSTEM is committed to consuming 120% renewable energy for our office from Relay Power community solar, pellets, and green electricity aggregation.
Virtual Employees– NSTEM and its affiliate, Seaside Sustainability, fully embrace virtual work and encourage our local, regional, and international team members to work remotely.
